Food
State
|
The Food State revolution started 17 years ago in the UK through
Nature's Own Ltd of Hanley Swan in the Malvern Hills.
Like most
innovative ideas it was slow to take off initially, but is now gaining much
favour.
This was because 17 years ago most people believed that the
vitamins and minerals they were taking were already as natural as they could
be. What they didn't realise was that they were taking isolated chemicals that
had been derived from substances often quite remote from their normal food
stuffs. For example ascorbic acid, or vitamin C is sourced mainly from the
dextrose extracted from corn syrup.
Science has in fact been very
successful in breaking our food down into its isolated components (including
vitamins and minerals), but in doing that we have often lost the value of the
original whole. For example vitamin C was isolated as the active ingredient in
citrus fruit in the 1930's, but since then, year by year, scientists have also
uncovered the true value of the various flavonoids which appear naturally in
citrus fruit.
|
These flavonoids are now known to be vital in
protecting and supporting the assimilation of Vitamin C. It's almost like the
scientists are step by step proving that nature had it right all along and that
eventually we may well get back to the whole citrus fruit that has been
organically grown in season again!
|
Put another way,
it's a little like breaking a car down into its constituent parts, identifying
the engine as the active ingredient that powers the car forward, and then
ignoring the fact that in isolation the engine is of no use without the
petrol,wheels, battery etc.
It is the whole car which is of value to
the driver. In a similar way, vitamins and minerals need the presence of
compatible organic substances for effective assimilation and ease of
transportation throughout the body. Because the "Food State" nutrients from
Nature's Own are already combined in the appropriate materials, the body can
see them as similar to food. When we at Nature's Own describe them as "combined in the
appropriate materials" we mean that in the case of Vitamin C it is combined in
fruit pulp made from small oranges (therefore the product naturally contains a
full range of flavonoids appropriate to Vitamin C).
For vitamin E the natural association Nature's Own use is
unhydrogenated vegetable oil, and Betacarotene is complexed with carrot
concentrate. Hence the Nature's Own statement that Food State is as close to
food as possible |
